Before your first appointment

You will speak with Amy to gain an understanding of your child's needs, which OT will be the best fit for your family and a time that suits for occupational therapy sessions. Once your Initial Appointment is booked, you will receive a confirmation email outlining the date, time and cost. This email will also include an Intake Questionnaire. Completing this helps the OT prepare and understand your child’s needs before meeting them.

Initial Appointment

During the session, the OT will engage with your child through their strengths and interests, while discussing the challenges you’ve identified, your priorities, and the goals you would like to work toward. They will also provide guidance on the recommended number of therapy sessions, which will vary depending on the goals set.

To clearly document the plan, many families find it helpful for the therapist to prepare a Therapy Plan Report, summarising recommendations and next steps. When more detailed assessments are required, this information is also discussed in the Therapy Plan Report.

Ongoing therapy

Throughout therapy, the OT will regularly provide feedback, strategies and recommendations while reviewing your child’s goals and progress, making changes as needed. You will be involved in conversations about goal updates, progress, and planning for discharge. Discharge may involve re-assessment, reducing appointment frequency, taking a therapeutic break, or transitioning to community-based groups and services.

Appointments are 45 minutes + 15 minutes of planning, resource preparation, email feedback and session notes.

Frequency is based on the child's goals and needs. This can range from weekly to fortnightly or block support over the school holidays. Frequency is determined once we receive your Intake Questionnaire and discussed with your OT at the Initial Appointment.

It is very beneficial for a parent/caregiver to attend the Initial Appointment. If you cannot be there, we can organise a phone call before the first session to discuss the intake questionnaire and goal areas.

It is great for parents to attend the sessions but it may not always possible if sessions occur during the school day, so parents who cannot attend, the OT will provide feedback via email after the appointment.

Yes there is a travel fee for the time taken for us to visit. Costs will depend on location and are between $45-$52. To keep travel times down, we schedule visits in similar regions and areas each day.

We value your child’s progress and aim to provide consistent services. To do this effectively:

• We ask that appointments are cancelled as soon as possible and at least 24 hours before the session.

• Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, or missed without notice (no-shows or cancelled within 2 hours) will be billed at 100% of the session fee, including travel costs.

• We understand emergencies happen. In exceptional circumstances, cancellation fees may be waived at our discretion.
